Motiva Enterprises LLC is commemorating National First Responders Day (October 28) by announcing the recipients of its First Responder Grant Program, awarding more than $75,000 to 16 emergency response organizations in three Texas counties that host Motiva’s assets.

Thirteen of this year’s recipients are in Jefferson County, including Jefferson County Emergency Services District 1, which plans to use its $5,000 award to purchase SCBA bottles – a critical component in a firefighter’s breathing air system.

"This investment directly enhances the safety and effectiveness of our emergency responders, ensuring they have the reliable breathing equipment needed to operate in hazardous conditions,” said Chris Gonzales, Fire Chief, Jefferson County Emergency Services District 1.

"Motiva’s commitment to community safety is commendable, and their support helps protect those who protect the residents of Jefferson County."

Grants up to $10,000 per applicant are awarded to eligible organizations to fund the purchase of safety equipment, professional training, or safety education programs. Today’s announcement represents the Motiva program’s fifth grant award cycle. Since the Motiva First Responder Grant Program was introduced in 2021, the company has provided grant awards across its operating area totaling nearly $600,000.

“First responders are the backbone of our communities, and their courage and commitment inspire us every day,” said Jeff Newman, Motiva Operations Executive Vice President. “Through this grant program, we’re proud to stand behind the men and women who run toward danger to keep others safe. It’s our way of saying thank you and ensuring they have the tools and training they need to do their jobs safely and effectively.”

This year’s grant recipients gathered at Motiva’s Port Arthur Manufacturing Complex last week to receive their awards and conduct emergency response planning.

Congress designated October 28 as National First Responders Day in 2017. The day honors the paramedics, EMTS, firefighters, police officers and 911 operators who answer the call when a crisis arises, often putting their own lives on the line. Serving as a national day of gratitude, National First Responders Day pays tribute to their services to their communities and honors fallen first responders.
