Motiva Announces Nearly $159K in Grants to Emergency Responders

HOUSTON (January 31, 2023) – Motiva Enterprises today announced the recipients of its Motiva First Responder Grant Program, awarding nearly $159,000 to 23 emergency response organizations in communities that host Motiva’s assets across six states.

Through this program, grants up to $10,000 per applicant are being awarded to eligible organizations to fund the purchase of safety equipment, professional training, or safety education programs.

One of the 23 grant recipients is the Port Neches Fire Department, which plans to use its grant to purchase new Automated External Defibrillators.

“We greatly appreciate the support that Motiva is providing to enhance public safety in Port Neches,” said Port Neches Fire Chief Eloy Vega. “Grants like this one sponsored by our local corporate partners are an important funding source that will make a difference and directly impact the safety in our community.”

Another recipient, the South Spartanburg Fire District, plans to use its grant to provide additional training to members who may respond to hazards involving petroleum storage facilities.

This Motiva grant will provide important funding that will allow members of our department to attend training to increase our expertise and efficiency when dealing with petroleum storage incident management,” said Fire Chief Ryan Eubanks. “We are grateful to Motiva for helping us equip our firefighters to keep our community safe.”

This week’s announcement represents the program’s second grant award cycle. Since the Motiva First Responder Grant Program was introduced in 2021, the company has provided grant awards to 40 organizations across its operating area totaling more than $289,000.

“Supporting organizations which contribute so much toward the safety of the community is one way we at Motiva put our core values into practice,” said Motiva Terminals & Pipelines General Manager Dollnila Slater. “In addition to improving the safety and preparedness of local first responders, we hope that these grants have a lasting, measurable impact on the communities where our employees live and work.”
