Ads generate a 98% spike in app downloads within first week
GetUpside Ads Launch on iHeartRadio
HOUSTON – Motiva and GetUpside announced today the launch of a new nationwide advertising campaign with iHeartRadio. With more than 385 million iHeartRadio and broadcast listeners, this newest marketing campaign, featuring DJ endorsements, programmatic radio and sponsorship of the Total Traffic & Weather Network and news updates, will introduce the GetUpside app to a significantly larger consumer audience than standard radio ads.
The promotion, which began running on dozens of broadcast stations, as well as on the app’s free streaming radio and digital music platform on July 9, is designed to boost consumer adoption of the GetUpside app across the entire United States.
“With the largest reach of any radio or TV outlet in America, our advertising collaboration with iHeartRadio is forecasted to increase GetUpside’s user base by a factor of ten,” said GetUpside CEO and Co-founder Alex Kinnier. “The majority of iHeartRadio users listen while driving making the platform an ideal marketing partner for the GetUpside app, which gives drivers cash back on gas and brings gas retailers incremental profit.”
iHeartMedia's 850 radio stations cover 150 markets coast to coast and span every popular genre and era including pop, country, urban, rock, talk and sports. Launching initially in 22 markets, the campaign is centered around live and recorded endorsements by dozens of iHeart’s most popular DJs, who talk about their personal use of the app and how it has improved their experience at the pump.
In addition to endorsements, the advertising campaign includes thousands of recorded ads powered by iHeartMedia’s programmatic buying platform, which allows them to use listener data and music preference to enhance the effectiveness of the campaign. Within the first week, the ads generated a 98% increase in app downloads. As the GetUpside app is launched in new markets, the iHeartRadio advertising campaign also will expand.
“We are seeing a rapid acceleration of enrollment of new wholesaler partners and retail sites into the GetUpside program, and we have even reached capacity in many markets,” said Charlie Wemyss, sales manager for Motiva’s GetUpside program. “We have implemented a wait list for new retail sites in those markets and are on pace to add a new market each month.”
Motiva and GetUpside limit enrollment into the GetUpside app in most cases to only one station within each competitive cluster with an exclusivity radius of half a mile for urban sites, three-quarters of a mile for suburban sites and 1.5 miles for rural sites.
Most recently, GetUpside began enrolling gas stations in Georgia, empowering Georgia consumers to join motorists in New York, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida and Washington DC to participate in the cash-back program.
Motiva and GetUpside plan to expand the GetUpside Program into Texas in the upcoming months and to wholesalers across the entire United States in 2019.
